Her mother, Echo Byers, confirmed Reginae died at 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Marbury was first diagnosed with the disease in April 2015 and lost her leg, but the cancer returned when she entered Emma Sansom Middle for the 2016-2017 school year. She began chemotherapy at that point and made repeated trips to and from Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. A GoFundMe account set up for her medical expenses described her form of cancer as Osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumor. WBRCviewers got to know Reginae when the school held a pep rally for her. The cheerleaders, along with the principal, several teachers and students, wore yellow, her favorite color. A fellow student who barely knew her, Adrian Archer, even got his head shaved to show solidarity with her and prevent her from being bullied. By all accounts, she was never bullied and adjusted to the new school well. “I think it was very cool and neat,” Reginae told WBRC that day about Adrian’s gesture, also calling it “very sweet.” Marbury was named an honorary drum major for Gadsden City High School and was honored at the beginning of the Gadsden City-Sparkman football game October 14. WBRC Sideline viewers saw Reginae that night posing with the Titan cheerleaders as she wore a glittery blazer.
